FuZe8 have weekly classes during term time on a Tuesday from 4.45pm-7.30pm and participate in technique and creative sessions, masterclasses, professional workshops, performances and curtain raisers across the South West. FuZe8 Youth Dance Company prepares dancers for higher level training for those considering higher education study at dance institutions, colleges & careers in dances & creative arts. With the current restrictions of COVID, the youth company have been working via Zoom to experience their own virtual escapism through dance. Sea of Troubles – Yorke Dance Project

Autumn term – September 2020 The dancers have been working with Yorke Dance Project who create unique residences offering young people the experience of working intensively with company members for 3-6 days. Welcome Jazz Gritt – newly appointed Associate choreographer for FuZe8

FuZe8 dancing in lockdown! Jazz focused on building the dancers’ strength, flexibility, technique, creativity and knowledge within contemporary dance. Using Cunningham Technique as a base he developed the dancers awareness of their body and where it is in space, plus ensuring they moved dynamically through shapes and showed both control and attack with movements. Each week the classes increased in tempo and difficulty, to really challenge the dancers. Jazz created a piece of choreography applying Rudolf Laban’s principle ‘Points in Space’. Workshop with Tribe Dance Company

FuZe8 watched a very powerful and exhilarating female dance company perform ‘Still I rise’ at PDSW. The following week the dancers experienced a high energy and physical workshop with Finetta, who pushed the dancers physically and stretched their perception of dance vocabulary. Lawrence James – Resident choreographer for FuZe8 Dance Company

Lawrence joined FuZe8 as a resident choreographer in November, and led both the FuZe8 feeder class and Youth Dance Company. His 6 month residency came to a sudden halt with Covid-19 and our performance of Sayr wasn’t performed. Next term, we hope to invite Lawrence back to the studio to rehearse Sayr a piece of choreography that not only challenged the dancers physicality but also enhanced their choreography knowledge. Dance Lab 2019 with Artistic Director Ben Warbis

  On Saturday 9 November FuZe8 worked with Associate Director Ben Warbis. Ben focused on strengthening the dancers body through the use of Cunningham technique; emphasising clarity of form, coordination of torso and legwork, rhythmic accuracy, spatial awareness and virtuosity. The second part of the day explored approaches to choreography, and challenging the use of improvisation, imagery and use of rhythmic timing.
